Q. What are ABI categories?

A. When an insurance company pays out on a claim, they categorise the salvage (vehicle) depending on severity of damage and cost of estimate to repair.

Q. What are the categories?

A.
CAT A => SCRAP(MUST BE CRUSHED)    
CAT B => SPARES ONLY(Vehicle may not be returned to road. Parts may be sold), never to go back on road.    
CAT C => REPAIRABLE SALVAGE, cars will require VIC check. Bikes require V5 applying for using V62 (no inspection needed for CAT C motorcycles)(Cost of damage (at dealer prices and labour rates) is more than book value of vehicle.) .    
CAT D => REPAIRABLE SALVAGE,Probably non-structural damage. May have been economic to repair, but insurer doesn't want to HAVE IT BACK. most have a V5 with them. If not, simply apply for V5 using V62

Q. How do i apply for a V5?

A. You can apply for a V5 using a form 'V62', available from the post office. It is free for CAT C vehicles, however, there is a £19.00 charge for CAT D, CAT X or UNRECORDED vehicles.

Q. What is a V5/ V5C?

A. A V5 is a vehicle registration document, also known as a LOG BOOK. V5C is the new European style registration document.

Q. Do i have legal title without a V5?

A. YES, the invoice at point of sale is proof of title, NOT the V5.

Q. Can i put the vehicle back on the road?

A. Yes, the vehicle can go back on the road. Carry out any necessary repair work needed to make the bike road worthy. If the vehicle is more than 3 years old, it will require an MOT. Then simply TAX & INSURE the vehicle and away you go!!

Q. Does the vehicle retain its original registration number?

A. YES. Because the vehicles are sold as REPAIRABLE SALVAGE, they keep their original number, instead of being assigned a 'Q Plate'.

Q. Does the vehicle run?

A. Unless otherwise stated in the description, the vehicle is a runner.

Q. Do you deliver?

A. YES, we can arrange delivery throughout UK mainland for a fee.

Q. How much does delivery cost?

A. Please e-mail/ ring with your postcode for costs. E.g. London/ Edinburgh/ Glasgow is £125.00.

Q. Do you repair the vehicles?

A. NO. Sorry, we make sure the vehicles run, but no repair work is carried out by RS MOTORCYCLES.

Q. Do you accept VISA/ MASTERCARD?

A. YES. we do take plastic (NOT AMERICAN EXPRESS). There is a 2% charge on CREDIT CARD transactions. NO FEE for DEBIT CARDS. We do need to see 2 forms of ID, preferably with photo on at least one.

Q. If the vehicle is recorded as CAT C/ D can i get the category removed?

A. NO. Once a vehicle has been categorised as salvage, it retains the salvage 'marker' for life.

Q. What is CAT X?

A. CAT X is a vehicle which has had a claim but not written off. E.g Not recorded, usually Stolen Recovered, and found after insurance has paid out!

Q. Are all your vehicles damaged?

A. NO, most are, but we also have some PART EXCHANGED vehicles which are RIDE AWAY!

Q. Do you take PART EXCHANGE?

A. YES, we do take PX depending on price & condition of your vehicle.

Q. I have a vehicle which has been damaged & repaired, would you take that in Part Exchange?

A. YES. Obviously we would have to see the vehicle and quality of repair before giving a price for PART EXCHANGE.

Q. On the website it doesn't mention TAX & TEST?

A. Unless otherwise stated, the vehicles are sold without TAX or TEST.

Q. The description states 'STOLEN RECOVERED', how do i know you haven't stolen it yourself?!!

A. We have been established for 20 years, selling salvage to both public & trade. We buy vehicles from the insurance companies. If we had stolen vehicles on site we could not be allowed to buy from the insurance, and obviously the police would have been involved well before now!!

Q. I don't know what type of bike i want. Can i come and view all your bikes?

A. YES. Feel free to wander around the showrooms, our helpful staff ;) will show you the bikes, or if you prefer, leave you to look around on your own.

Q. Can i see the bike/ car running?

A. YES, we can start any vehicle for you and let you have a good look around it.

Q. Why don't you repair them yourself?

A. We collect between 20 & 50 bikes per week, we don't have time to start repairing them ourselves!!

Q. Can i collect the vehicle myself?

A. YES, collection of the vehicles is no problem.

Q. Can i take the bike out of the UK?

A. YES, obviously you will need to check what paperwork the destination country will require, but exporting the vehicles is no problem!

Q. I want to use the bike straightaway but it has no TAX or V5, what can i do?

A. You can either apply for a V5, usually takes 7 - 14 days to come through, OR fill out a FORM V62, take that along with CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE, MOT CERTIFICATE & PAYMENT to local VRO post office and pay for TAX & V5 over counter. Take TAX disc back with you! 

Q. Can you send me more photos of DAMAGE?

A. YES, simply e-mail us with the vehicle code, E.g. HONDA05, and we will reply with more detailed pictures and any further information you may require.

Q. Can i have more detailed descriptions of damage?

A. YES, if you ring the shop, a member of staff will walk round the vehicle giving detailed descriptions of damage.

Q. When can i view the vehicle?

A. We are open 6 days a week.
     MONDAY to FRIDAY 9.00AM to 5.30PM
     SATURDAY 9.00AM to 5.00PM
    All the vehicles on our website are on the premises for viewing!

Q. Do you do test-rides?

A. NO, all vehicles can be seen running, but no test-rides, Sorry!

Q. Are you open late on any night?

A. NO, sorry, the latest is 5.30 through the week!

Q. The mileage is 0, does this mean the vehicle is new?

A. NO, Unless otherwise stated, this means the clocks are missing or the display is damaged so a reading cannot be obtained.

Q. Do you give warranties/ guarantees on the vehicles?

A. NO. Sorry, the vehicles are sold as salvage without any kind of warranty.

Q. Do you do Finance?

A. NO. Sorry but we only do one payment scheme.... ONE LUMP SUM!! : )
